The best time to plan holiday lighting is before the installation calendar becomes the main constraint. Starting early gives the homeowner time to compare the display, equipment, service terms, access, power, and final written price without rushing the design.
Late summer and early fall: decide on the display
Choose the must-have areas first: front roofline, peaks, garage, entry, columns, railings, trees, shrubs, or other features. Separate optional areas so the installer can price them clearly.
Collect one or two reference images and decide whether you prefer a classic warm-white display, festive color, or a more detailed design.
Before the quote: photograph the property safely
Take wide photos of the front, rear, and both sides from the ground. Show height changes, roof transitions, landscaping, fences, slopes, access paths, and likely power locations. Do not climb onto the roof for estimate photos.
Tell the installer about gated access, pets, shared driveways, timers, switched outlets, or property work that may affect the schedule.
During the proposal: compare inclusions, not only price
One proposal may include equipment, installation, in-season service, removal, and storage while another may cover only labor. The written scope should make the difference obvious.
Confirm the approved display areas, equipment ownership, power plan, service terms, installation window, removal window, storage, exclusions, and property-specific total.
Before installation: prepare access and approved areas
Move vehicles, decorations, furniture, hoses, and fragile items from the agreed work zones. Unlock gates and make sure the company can reach the approved outlets and controller area.
If another contractor is working on the roof, gutters, siding, electrical system, or landscaping, coordinate the timing before the lighting appointment.
After installation: learn the service process
Ask how to report an approved light or section that stops working and what response terms are included. Do not assume that every company includes identical service throughout the season.
Keep the written proposal and note any operating instructions, timer settings, or areas that should not be adjusted without contacting the installer.
Plan removal and storage before the season ends
Seasonal displays need clear removal and storage terms. Confirm whether the company removes the approved display, who owns the equipment, how storage is handled, and whether next year’s installation is a separate agreement.
Pure Blue prepares holiday-light scopes around the actual property, selected display, access, power, equipment, timing, and requested service terms.
